I said I'd post, so here we go. It's been a busy 06 thus far.

Work, as always, is keeping me exceptionally busy. With the shear volume of devices we support, it always seems like something is breaking or corrupting. If it's not that, then we're hunting down rogue devices (it sounds cool, it's really not). During the absolutely fantastic weather last week I was able to get some offsite calls done, and drive around with the windows down, which was just....awesome. I hate winter, I hate snow, and having a few nice days in January is just fantastic.

I also spent some time working on a lost weekend out at the shed. We started around 7 on Friday night, and finished up sometime on Sunday. Much alcohol was to be had, and I practiced an exceptional amount of cellular Darwinism.

On the home front, things are going quite nicely, I've settled in and basically threw my junk everywhere around the house. I've got all the books, bottles and various nick-nacks and technology deployed everywhere. The newest additions to my collection of stuff is probably one of the most awesome things I own. I pre-ordered this little gem sometime in may 05, soon after I saw it was going to be made. Despite many manufacturing setbacks, delays, and others losing hope, I perservered, and finally, it arrived. Behold, the power that is Toynami's Limited Edition Masterpiece Voltron! Ah yes, you may envy me, as mine sits on the place of honor on the bookshelf.

Demon is also getting a bit of an upgrade, by no choice of my own. I noticed last week that my BFG GeForceFX 5900XT was making some great growling noises, AKA bad fan. As it's an overclocked graphics card, this was potentially a bad thing. The initial plan was to use BFG's lifetime warranty, take it in to Best Buy and exploit their policies for a new, free video card (I'd have about $200 to work with) but lo and behold, best buy carries absolute crap when it comes to video cards now. Not a single card they have in stock performs better than my year and a half old 5900XT (and we're talking margins of 200 million triangles per second slower, with 100Mhz less core clock). What's a geek to do...

So my brand new BFG 6800GS OC with 256MB of G3DDR ram is supposed to arrive today. As you can see, I took the only logical route to fixing a bad graphics card (btw, ignoring the growling noise until it goes away, then loading up some Doom3 is not really healthy for your old GFX card) and bought a bigger, angrier card to replace it. I figure I can still take the old one in to best buy and score some cash for it in the form of store credit or something. We'll see.

hey folks! I'll have a real post for you here this week, but I just wanted to let you know why the radio on the mainpage is down. Turns out, when I upgraded to the new version of the radio.blog code, it turned on indexing for R.B.groups, which made my music searchable, which led to some 3000 or so hits to the files last month for a grand total of 5.1GB of throughput.

Now, if they had visited the side, I'd have been cool with that, but it was just linking to the individual files, and I consider that a no-no. I've turned the code off, and disabled the content for the time being. It'll be back later.

SigX! The fresh maker.
