I have to say, you folks are making me very happy. I was digging through my server logs for the site, and I was impressed by some of the statistics that I saw. I've got about 170+ visitors a day here, which absolutely astounds me. I had no idea that many people like to peek at my life... maybe I should think about closing the blinds O_o

Secondly, over 70% of my web traffic is generated by people using Mozilla Firefox, which makes me almost weep with joy! 70% of my readers are smart enough to take back the web, and browse WITHOUT spyware bugging them constatly.

As far as my ongoing battle with Linux and the iBook? well, I've declared victory (no, I didn't hang a banner on a battleship, but still). After trying YDL, Gentoo, Mandrake 10.1ppc, and all of those giving me strange bugs and issues(no sound, randomly corrupting bootstrap partitions, install routines that would make Stephen hawking cry) I found Ubuntu Linux. The install went smoothly, the GUI is Gnome (which I now love, to hell with KDE). The wireless LAN setup via Airport gave me a bit of trouble, but nothing a complete Linux noob like myself couldn't figure out. A few tweaks later and all the system sounds and multimedia apps are working at full power, and it runs FAST. Tons more responsive than OS X (which is now residing on a dinky, rarely used 5GB partition).

So after some initial issues getting MacOS X and YDLinux to dual boot, everything is set up and running spiffy. Honestly, you've got to be an idiot not to be able to use OS X, it's that intuitive. Being somewhat an experienced PC user, It's almost to easy to do things, and it locks me out of some of the real nuts and bolts. That's where Linux comes in. Probably 80% of the time I spend on the iBook is spent in Linux. downside? latest kernal for PPC processors , when using KDE (and most of the time Gnome) has really really wonky support for sound. I have a system beep, but that's about it. no big deal, I use Demon for audio, and if I need it on the ibook, MacOS X is there.

In other news, www.Generationtrance.com go there, listen and be amazed. GT, Project C and their crew are just fantastic, and get better with every mix. Honestly I've been kicking Tiesto and Oakenfold off the iPod to fit more of these guys.

I'm writing this from my living room couch, because in some small way, a portion of hell has frozen over. before I tell you what I did, let me justify my reasons. Microsoft has had to release over a dozen patches since SP2 was released, almost all of them "critical" in nature. it's been like that ever since win98. At the end of december, 2006, MS will stop releasing patches for winXP as it will have entered it's non-supported development phase (their words, not mine). the next MS OS to be released, aside from the infinate patch loop and cash sponge that is Server 2003, is "longhorn" in 2008. 2 years AFTER Xp is done. what did MS do LAST time that happened. Windows ME (shudder).

I don't want to be dependent on Windows anymore. There are some Viable alternatives out there. Linux, an Open Source OS, comes in hundreds of "flavors" called distributions. Apple, with it's resurgence after the iPod became a pop culture smash, promises to be a strong non-MS player with OS X.

I wanted to try both, and there was a very easy way to do it.

I'm writing this from my couch because I'm accessing the web wirelessly...on my Apple G3 iBook...

to be continued...

So happy new year and all! It's been a minorly eventful new year for me so for, but once again, I'm a geek, so this is all reletive I suppose.

I spent the latter half of the last week in 2004 sick, again (sigh) and this carried right over into 2005. New Year's eve was spent getting all the bad beer out of the way, so we won't have to worry about drinking rancid prune water anymore this year (A.K.A. all the new beers we decided to try on NYEve ended up tasting horrid. I hate you Unibrew)

EQ wise, After my guild made it very clear they were capable of killing content like we did back in the day, I took my leave of Resilience, and for the first time in a long while, set my sights on something new and inherently challenging again. It was hard to leave what I've come to consider an online family of sorts, but it was time to put my personal ambitions in the forefront for a change.

Online wise, I've been trying to give a little back to a pair of artists that have provided me with fantastic music for the last year. Project C and djGT (www.generationtrance.com) are in my mind two of the premire vocal trance DJ's out there right now, on par with the best in the business. Recently, they asked their community for submissions for CD and Disc cover art, and I've been trying to fill in as many gaps as I can. I'm not fantastic at it, but I will do what I can. I also added a script to the blog here that updates about every 10 minutes, showing what I'm listening to, my CPU/RAM usage, and some other tidbits about what's going on here in Darksev-land. SigX! The fresh maker.
